Gulmohur Chronicles 10th Edition

” There is no denying that there is evil in this world but the light will always conquer the darkness “-
My dear children,
Here we are in the month of October. The tenth month of the calendar , October , holds a special place in our hearts. Several festivals and important days fall in the month of October including Dussehra, Durga Puja, Karva Chauth , Gandhi Jayanti , the birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri, World Animal Day , Indian Air Force Day , World Post Office Day, World Mental Health Day , World Food Day , International Chefs Day and many more. Do you know children the name for the month of October comes from the Roman word for ” eighth “- octavus – as it was the eighth month of the Roman year.

This month we focused on the festival of Dussehra also known as Vijayadashmi, which is a major Hindu festival that marks the end of Navratri. In the year 2021,Dussehra will be celebrated on October 15,Friday.

Dussehra marks the end of Durga Puja , remembering goddess Durga ‘s victory over the buffalo demon Mahishasura to restore and protect dharma. In some regions, it marks the end of Ramlila and
remembers God Rama ‘s victory over Ravana. In lots of places, effigies of Ravana are burned on this day to signify the destruction of evil, along with fireworks.

On the same occasion, Bengalis observe Bijoya Dashami that marks the tenth day of Durga puja. On this day, idols of the goddess Durga are carried in processions and immersed in the river. Married women also smear vermilion on each other’s faces while others exchange greetings and celebrate with feasts.

The festival also starts the preparations for Diwali, the festival of lights, which is celebrated 20 days after Vijayadashami or Dussehra. Let’s partake in the Dussehra festivities, spending time with friends and family and honouring the religious aspects of the holiday.

Dear children, we are going through a very uncertain time as a global community. Only patience and perseverance will take us through.

I wish all of you good health and happiness.

Au revoir!
Yours lovingly,
