Let’s be Earth Buddies – A Save Soil Movement

“To forget how to dig the earth and to tend the soil is to forget ourselves”
~ Mahatma Gandhi
Gulmohur High School’s ideals reflected in its mission statement to empower individuals to become caring, competent and responsible citizens was realized on 22nd April ’22 when the school celebrated Earth Day by raising awareness about the restoring the fertility of the soil in an organic manner through a wonderful concept called: Let’s be Earth Buddies – A Save Soil Movement
The event was organized in collaboration with Save Soil Movement powered by the Isha Foundation. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Sanjay Sinha (Chairman – G.H.S Managing Committee). Other dignitaries from the Managing Committee as well as volunteers from the Isha Foundation graced the occasion with their presence. All the distinguished guests along with Principal Ms. Priti Sinha and Vice Principal Ms. Archana Srivastava planted saplings to promote environmental properity.
The non-competitive inter-school event was enthusiastically supported by 22 schools from Jamshedpur. Students from class III to class IX participated in various categories like – Stone Painting, Soil Art, Case Study, Group Discussions etc. Keeping in mind the cause all materials used in these events were organic and eco-friendly.
Principal Ms. Priti Sinha’s visionary outlook and interest in making the students emotionally enriched and aware individuals helped the school conceptualize this one-of-a-kind event. She ensured that these noble soldiers of our future take the Save Soil Pledge to save our bountiful soil back to its organic glory. The students from the host and guest schools took the pledge to become Earth Buddies and carry the awareness back to their schools and share the knowledge they gained with their school mates and encourage them to be Earth Buddies too, who will work conscientiously towards replenishing the Earth back to its fertile self.
The students of the school have also written letters to the Hon’ble Prime Minister to initiate awareness and restorative programmes regarding the soil. The event included a short cultural programme based on the theme “Save Soil”. The entire event was ably executed by Ms. Gargi Mukherjee, Ms. Madhuchanda Sarkar, Ms. Vinita Krishnan, Ms. Jaswinder Kaur and other members of the faculty.
